Head to Byron Bay to explore magnificent beaches, coastal walks and the stunning hinterland. Byron's eclectic community and laidback lifestyle is fueled by beach yoga, surfing at sunrise, massages at relaxation retreats and a popular organic food scene.
Get up early to catch the sunrise from the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse. This 1899 lighthouse sits on Australia's most easterly point and serves up jaw-dropping views. From here, hit the Cape Byron walking track. It's not too strenuous and incredibly scenic, with lookouts and bench seating along. Stop to take in the ocean sights, with dolphins, turtles, surfers and humpback whales often making an appearance.
Go swimming, boating, fishing and whale-watching at Cape Byron Marine Park. This wild, well-preserved marine park, home to sea birds and sea turtles, stretches from Brunswick Heads to Lennox Head. It's studded with beautiful beaches and inlets, perfect for scuba diving and other water-based activities. It's also one of the best places to see whales and dolphins, either from a viewing platform or on an organised tour.
Grab a blanket, some yummy local produce and head to family-friendly Wategos Beach for an al fresco feast by the water or a breakfast barbecue on the grass. Wategos is a pretty, sheltered beach with gentle waves, making it perfect for swimming surfing beginners. Further along the cape, you'll find Little Wategos, a teeny-tiny beach that is Australia's most easterly. It's nicely protected and good for rock fishing.
