Irresistible white sand meets vivid coral seas

With its fine white sand, glassy aquamarine water and vibrant colourful reefs, in Miyako, life is literally a beach, and pretty much the reason everyone comes to Okinawa. Connected by bridge, each of the islands brings its own distinct flavour, beaches and dive sites.

Fun things to do: Miyako (Shimojishima)

  • Drive from Cape to Cape, traversing Miyako's length, bookended by superb views
  • Strap on a mask and snorkel to be wowed by Aragusuku beach's crystal-clear waters
  • Find your patch of sand along Yonaha Maehama's 7km stretch of white beach
  • Taste test Japanese craft beers accompanied by tasty tacos at Island Brewing
  • Take in the island's history and cultural heritage at Miyakojima City Museum
