Ashes (human or animal cremated remains) may be carried as checked or carry-on baggage, as long as you meet the following conditions:

  • You must have an official document (or certified copy) from a funeral director or crematorium confirming contents of the container you are carrying.
  • The container holding the ashes must be clean of any soil.
  • The container must be sealed properly to stop any leaks.

Before you travel, please check if there are any additional declaration requirements for your departure and arrival airports.

If you’re carrying cremated remains on board, make sure you meet our carry-on baggage item, size and weight requirements, for details see: Carry-on baggage – what can I bring on board?.

The container holding the ashes must stay closed throughout your journey.
