Can I bring my bicycle?

Yes! You can bring your bike, as long as it is packed correctly and meets our safety requirements.

An oversized item handling fee applies to any item with a single side longer than one metre (1000mm, 39in), including wheels, handles and packaging.

Oversized items will count toward your total checked baggage weight, so make sure you have purchased enough checked baggage.

Save time at the airport by paying the oversized item fee when you book, or before you fly at Manage booking.

Packing your bike

You will need to pack your bike in a suitable bike bag or box. We don’t provide bags or boxes – it’s up to you to make sure your bike is prepared for travel.

To add your bike as checked baggage, you’ll need to:

• deflate the tyres
• detach the pedals
• fix the handle bars parallel to the frame
• detach the front wheel if the bike is longer than 180cm. You’ll need to fix the front wheel inside the bike bag/box alongside the rear wheel.

Tandems, recumbent bicycles and bike trailers can also be checked in as baggage, as long as they meet size and weight requirements. Fold-up bikes do not need to travel in a bike pack.

Remember, no single item can weigh more than 32kg. A maximum length applies, but varies by the type of aircraft and service. See Size and weight restrictions for checked baggage for details.

E-bikes

You can only bring your e-bike as checked baggage if its lithium battery meets safety requirements.

• If the battery is below 100Wh, you can bring it as checked baggage.
• If the battery is between 100Wh and 160Wh, you need to get airline approval – email dg@qantas.com.au to make a request.
• If the battery is over 160Wh, it must be sent through a dangerous goods freight forwarder. See Qantas Freight for more information.
