Seremban is the street food haven less than an hour from Kuala Lumpur you should be heading to
Klang is not the only foodie road trip worth taking when you’re visiting KL. Seremban offers a more diverse range of hawker food at affordable prices.
- November 2019
While most travellers make foodie day trips out of Kuala Lumpur to Klang for bak kut teh (pork ribs soup) or Sekinchan for Teochew food, the town of Seremban flies under the radar. Well, that just means you can tuck into some of the best hawker food without jostling with tourists. Here are four local food haunts to check out while you’re there.
1. Seremban Food Street (closed on Mondays)
Seremban is a small town so most streets get quiet after office hours. Not on Seremban Food Street though. Come 5.30pm, the sleepy town comes to life as the city centre transforms into a makeshift open-air dining area attracting a steady stream of hungry locals. Take your pick from over 20 food stalls peddling everything from prawn noodles to fried carrot cake and nasi lemak.

2. Pasar Besar Seremban
No trip to Seremban is complete without a visit to Pasar Besar Seremban (which translates to “Seremban Big Market”). Once you reach the food court on the first floor, make a beeline for stall 748 which sells one of the best beef noodles in town. Freshly made springy noodles, beef slices, tripe and beef balls are doused in an umami-rich gravy that can only be achieved from long hours of slow-cooking.

3. Restoran Seremban Chicken Porridge (closed on Tuesdays)
There are only two things to order here: poached chicken, and porridge topped with pork innards including deep-fried pork intestines. It doesn’t sound like much but locals would beg to differ — a snaking queue forms even before the eatery opens at 5.30pm and dishes can sell out in two hours.

4. Restoran Melido
At this coffee shop, one stall stands out among the rest — the second-generation family-run business selling Teochew-style yong tau foo. Take your pick from a staggering variety of items, from their speciality of fish cake mixed with tofu and vegetables, to beef balls and all types of fish paste-stuffed tofu products. Best of all, everything is made fresh on-site without preservatives.
