Home to the bright lights of Tokyo and almost a third of Japan’s population, Kanto is where the action is.

Kanto is comprised of Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures, Chiba, Saitama, Gunma, Kanagawa, Ibaraki and Tochigi. Given that it’s the capital region, Kanto is Japan’s political, financial and, arguably, its cultural centre.

The Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area has enough world-class hotels, restaurants and museums to impress even the most seasoned traveller but there’s more to the place than seemingly endless cityscapes. There’s surfing to be had on Chiba’s Boso Peninsula. Hakone offers hot springs at the foot of Mt Fuji. Oze National Park in Gunma boasts sweeping views and marshland hikes. Tochigi is home to Nikko and its many temples. And the Ogasawara Islands, technically part of Tokyo, are known as the Galapagos of the East for their endemic flora and fauna.
