You can bring your surfboard, skis or snowboard as checked baggage, as long as your item is packed correctly and meets our safety requirements.
Skateboards and scooters
Please note: some airports do not allow skateboards and scooters (including electronic variations) to be taken through security.
Jetstar Japan (GK) flights do not allow electric skateboards or electric scooters regardless of battery type.
For other Jetstar flights, if you have an electric scooter or skateboard, additional restrictions apply depending on the battery power it uses:
* Your scooter or skateboard will be permitted in carry-on baggage provided all other size, weight and item allowances are met.
^ We recommend you submit your dangerous goods approval request at least 5 business days before your flight departs so we can address any issues and get you to your flight on time.
Oversized items
An oversized item handling fee applies to any item with a single side longer than one metre (1000mm, 39in), including wheels, handles and packaging.
Oversized items will count toward your total checked baggage weight, so make sure you have purchased enough checked baggage.
Save time at the airport by paying the oversized item fee when you book, or before you fly at Manage booking.
See Oversized baggage for more details.
Packing your items
You should pack your surfboard, skis, snowboard, skateboard or scooter in a bag designed for that equipment.
Where possible, remove surfboard fins and store them in an enclosed compartment in the bag or tape them to the board.
No single item can weigh more than 32kg. A maximum length applies but varies by the type of aircraft and service. See Size and weight restrictions for checked baggage or Carry-on baggage – What you can bring on board for details.
Not all fares include checked baggage
Checked baggage is not included with Economy Starter fares. For other fares, check how much baggage allowance is included.
Remember – the best time to add a baggage allowance is when you book.
Baggage charges at the airport
If you haven't added baggage and you arrive at the airport with checked baggage, charges will apply.
You'll be charged a fee for up to 15kg of baggage per passenger, and after that for every additional kilo at the per kilo rate. If you have added checked baggage to your booking but arrive with more than your allowance you’ll be charged for excess baggage. Excess baggage is charged per kilo. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to add excess baggage to your flight.
Make sure you check our policy for baggage transfers if you have flight connections on your itinerary.
