You can bring most musical instruments – the size and weight of your instrument will determine if you can carry it on board or must check it in.

Remember, if you want to bring your musical instrument as checked baggage and it is longer than one metre, an oversized item handling fee will apply. See below for details.

Small instruments

These are instruments that weigh less than 7kg, with a maximum size of 85 x 36 x 23cm.

They can be brought on board and stored in the overhead lockers. The instrument weight counts as part of your carry-on baggage allowance.

Larger instruments

For larger instruments, you may purchase a seat for the instrument or it must travel as checked baggage. If it weighs more than 15kg, it must travel as checked baggage and the oversized item handling fee will apply.

If your instrument must travel in a seat, contact us to make your booking.

A limited number of larger instruments can be carried inside the cabin on each flight:

For large instruments (maximum size 120 x 45 x 20cm), there is a limit of 2 per aircraft.

For extra-large instruments (maximum size 140 x 45 x 50cm), there is a limit of 1 per aircraft.

If travelling in the cabin, the instrument’s case must have a handle so it can be strapped to a seat and secured safely.

Make sure you pack your instrument carefully. We do our best to care for your instrument but we won’t accept any liability for damage.

Please note: Jetstar Asia (3K) does not accept larger instruments for carriage in the aircraft cabin.

Oversized items

If you want to bring your musical instrument as checked baggage and it is longer than one metre (1000mm, 39in), including and packaging, handles and wheels, an oversized item handling fee will apply.

Important – the weight of any oversized musical instruments will count towards your total checked baggage weight, so make sure you purchase enough.

The oversized item fee is a separate handling fee, paid per item and does not add any extra weight to your checked baggage allowance.

Pay the oversized item fee when you book, or before you fly at Manage booking, and you’ll save time paying at the airport.

No single bag or item can weigh more than 32kg.

See Oversized baggage for details.

Not all fares include checked baggage

Checked baggage is not included with Economy Starter fares. For other fares, check how much baggage allowance is included.

Remember – the best time to add a baggage allowance is when you book.

Baggage charges at the airport

If you haven't added baggage and you arrive at the airport with checked baggage, charges will apply.

You'll be charged a fee for up to 15kg of baggage per passenger, and after that for every additional kilo at the per kilo rate. If you have added checked baggage to your booking but arrive with more than your allowance you’ll be charged for excess baggage. Excess baggage is charged per kilo. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to add excess baggage to your flight.

Make sure you check our policy for baggage transfers if you have flight connections on your itinerary.
