At Jetstar, we have independent traveller requirements for all our passengers. If you do not meet the independent traveller requirements, you will need to travel with an accompanying passenger who can assist you.
We have additional independent traveller requirements for Young passengers travelling alone.
Independent traveller requirements
If you’re travelling with us, it's important that you can travel independently, which means you must be able to do the following without assistance:
- self-toilet, if required, during your flight (eg use of onboard toilet if available*, catheter, colostomy bag, or other method);
- eat and drink; and
- administer any medication or carry out any required medical procedures during the flight.
You must also be able to:
- communicate that you have understood the safety instructions and emergency instructions of our crew; and
- if you need to transfer between mobility aids or from a mobility aid to an aircraft seat:
- self-transfer; or
- be transferred using a slide board and by our staff without the assistance of an accompanying passenger or carer.
If you don’t meet all of these requirements, or you need help with any of these tasks, then you’ll need to travel with an accompanying passenger who can assist you.
Aisle wheelchairs are only available on international flights on Boeing 787 aircraft, and on all Jetstar Japan (GK) flights.
*Please note: There are no wheelchair accessible toilets or aisle wheelchairs on Jetstar (JQ) or Jetstar Asia (3K) flights on the A320, A321 or A321neo aircraft. On these aircraft, crew will not be able to assist you between your seat and the onboard toilet door.
You can find the aircraft type you’re flying on when you book, on the Choose flights page – just open the details link in the flight listing. The aircraft type is also listed on your itinerary.
Accompanying passengers for adults
If you don’t meet all our independent traveller requirements, you’ll need to travel with an accompanying passenger who does.
They’ll need to purchase their fare and be physically able to look after your needs. Your accompanying passenger must be able to assist you to do the following (as required):
- use the toilet on the aircraft and at the airport;
- deal with in-flight and airport emergencies;
- transport carry-on baggage and equipment;
- take medication and carry out any medical procedures;
- eat and drink;
- carry out administrative procedures such as completing immigration documentation;
- board and disembark, including assisting with transfers to and from mobility devices and seating where necessary; and
- assemble and disassemble wheelchairs.
One accompanying passenger can assist up to four adult passengers that don’t meet our independent traveller requirements. An accompanying passenger for adults must be at least 15 years old.
Remember, an accompanying passenger must be mature, self-reliant and capable of looking after and supervising those in their care for the full duration of the flight.
Accompanying passengers for children and infants
Passengers accompanying children must satisfy the requirements listed above, for any children or infants (less than 2 years old) in their care.
An accompanying passenger can travel with up to four children on a Jetstar flight. This can include up to two infants, but one of the infants must be booked as a child with their own seat. See What do I need to know about travelling with my infant.
On all Jetstar flights, infants less than three months old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
We have additional independent traveller requirements for Young passengers travelling alone.
