All passengers on international flights, including children and infants, need to show their passport at check-in. Your passport may also have a required validity period.

For some international journeys you’ll need to arrange other documentation such as visas or proof of onward journey. Each country has different requirements for arriving travellers, and it’s your responsibility to understand and arrange all the appropriate documentation. We won’t be able to assist if you arrive at the airport without the documents you need.

Visit your destination’s embassy or consulate website to find out what documents you’ll need. Some visas take time to process so it’s best to arrange your travel documents as early as possible.

Travelling to the United States

There are specific requirements that apply if you’re travelling to or from the United States.

Travelling to New Zealand

New Zealand’s visa and entry requirements have changed. You may have previously travelled to New Zealand without a visa, but you will now need a New Zealand electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before you arrive.

From 1 October 2019, if you are travelling to New Zealand you will require a NZeTA. You must apply for one at least 72 hours before you travel.

This includes connecting and transiting flights.

To apply for a visa or an NZeTA, and to read all the requirements, go to New Zealand Immigration. opens in new window

Australian passport holders do not require an NZeTA.
