Maximum weight
No single bag or item can weigh more than 32kg. If you have a checked-baggage allowance of 35kg or 40kg your baggage must be split over at least two bags, with no bag weighing more than 32kg.
If any single bag or item weighs more than 32kg it must be carried as freight. See Qantas freight opens in new window for freight options. The 32kg limit does not apply to electric wheelchairs and scooters, which may be checked in regardless of weight and will not incur any additional baggage weight or handling fee.
Oversized Items
Any bag or item with a single side longer than one metre (1000mm, 39in), including wheels, handles and packaging is oversized. Oversized item handling fees may apply.
The oversized item fee does not apply to oversized assistive devices, mobility aids, medical equipment and infant items.
See Oversized baggage for more information.
Maximum length for oversized items
The maximum length of any oversized item depends on the type of aircraft and service. You can find the aircraft type you’re flying on when you book, on the Choose flights page – just open the details link in the flight listing. The aircraft type is also listed on your itinerary. If your trip includes multiple flights and aircraft types, the lowest maximum length applies.

Not all fares include checked baggage
Checked baggage is not included with Economy Starter fares. For other fares, check how much baggage allowance is included.
Remember – the best time to add a baggage allowance is when you book.
Baggage charges at the airport
If you haven't added baggage and you arrive at the airport with checked baggage, charges will apply.
You'll be charged a fee for up to 15kg of baggage per passenger, and after that for every additional kilo at the per kilo rate. If you have added checked baggage to your booking but arrive with more than your allowance you’ll be charged for excess baggage. Excess baggage is charged per kilo. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to add excess baggage to your flight.
Make sure you check our policy for baggage transfers if you have flight connections on your itinerary.
