Scuba diving equipment can be included as part of your checked baggage, as long as it is packed properly. An oversized item handling fee applies to any piece of equipment longer than one metre, see below for details.
Packing your diving equipment
- Compressed air/gas tanks must be empty with the regulator tap open
- Knives must be carried in checked baggage
- Spear guns must be unloaded. You’ll need to pack spears separately and protect with material such as polystyrene.
Scuba gear is heavy! Make sure you have enough checked baggage allowance – to add more go to Manage booking.
Remember: no single item bag or item can weigh more than 32kg.
Oversized items
If any part of your diving equipment is longer than one metre (1000mm, 39in), including any packaging, handles or wheels, an oversized item handing fee will apply.
Important – the weight of any oversized scuba and diving equipment will still count towards your total checked baggage weight, so make sure you purchase enough.
The oversized item fee is a separate handling fee, paid per item and does not add any extra weight to your checked baggage allowance.
Pay the oversized item fee when you book, or before you fly at Manage booking, and you’ll save time paying at the airport.
See Oversized baggage for more details. Not all fares include checked baggage
Checked baggage is not included with Economy Starter fares. For other fares, check how much baggage allowance is included.
Remember – the best time to add a baggage allowance is when you book.
Baggage charges at the airport
If you haven't added baggage and you arrive at the airport with checked baggage, charges will apply.
You'll be charged a fee for up to 15kg of baggage per passenger, and after that for every additional kilo at the per kilo rate. If you have added checked baggage to your booking but arrive with more than your allowance you’ll be charged for excess baggage. Excess baggage is charged per kilo. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to add excess baggage to your flight.
Make sure you check our policy for baggage transfers if you have flight connections on your itinerary.
