To help you plan and prepare for your next international trip, we've created this handy checklist. Keep this nearby whenever you travel, as you'll need to complete these steps for every flight, including return flights.
Step 1 – Check government sites for the latest information
As we recover from COVID-19, there may be extra steps you need to complete to enter your destination. Travel requirements may vary between destinations and can change at short notice.
- Vaccination – Your destination may require proof of vaccination to permit entry.
- Health declarations – If required, declarations will need to be completed before you arrive for your flight.
- Insurance – Some insurers now offer COVID-19 cover. Insurance may be required to enter your destination.
- Visas – Be sure to check if visas are required. Note that some destinations that had visa-free travel now require visas.
- COVID-19 testing – Tests may be required at specified time frames before you depart and possibly on arrival or after you arrive at your destination.
- Contact tracing apps – If tracing apps are required, you’ll need to set these up before you arrive for your flight.
Check government sites before you fly to ensure you're eligible for travel. You can view exit and entry requirements for your destination on our International travel page. If you have a connecting flight, be sure to check transit and destination requirements.
Step 2 – Get your international vaccine certificate
If your destination requires proof of vaccination, you’ll need to bring your vaccination certificate to check in for your flight. If you have a connecting flight, be sure to check requirements for transit destinations and connecting airlines as additional vaccination requirements may apply. You will need to follow the strictest requirements.
Vaccinated in New Zealand
You'll need your International Travel Vaccination Certificate. This certificate is different to your My Vaccine Pass. My Vaccine Pass cannot be used for international travel.
Vaccinated overseas
If you were vaccinated overseas, make sure your certificate meets requirements for international travel.
Step 3 – Go to the airport
Please note: check-in, bag drop and boarding gate times for Jetstar Airways (JQ) flights have changed and close earlier.
Checking in
Online check-in is available for selected international flights. If online check-in is unavailable for your flight, you’ll need to check in at the airport. Please arrive at the airport early.
What to bring
Please bring any relevant travel documents with you to the airport, such as proof of vaccination, visas and insurance certificates, where required.
Travel requirements may change at short notice, always check government websites for the latest information.
Thank you for respecting each other and our team, and helping us create a safe and positive environment for everyone.
